You Don't Need to Be #Bookish. If you want to know what to read next find out @goodreads, @Shelfari or @lthing

There have been social networking book recommendation sites around for quite some time now. You don't even have to consider waiting to find your next book to read until this summer when three of the publishers known as the "Big 6" will be partnering up to push more of their authors work to keep their status and position in the publishing industry secure. Hachette, Penguin and Simon & Schuster have entered into an alliance with AOL Huffington Post  Media Group to build a "a destination that will delight readers" according to the CEO of Bookish Paulo Lemgruber. In his statement he also claims that he "looks forward to working with the entire publishing and book-selling community" well if that were the case all he needs to do is go on over to the existing book lover communities.

There are several like:

www.goodreads.com

www.shelfari.com

www.librarything.com

These are just to name a few. Or you can go where many if not most people who buy books online go and check out a listmania list on Amazon.com or the Barnes & Noble website. I'm not saying I won't check out bookish.com to see if it really is going to embrace and interact with all of the book community, but to be honest I don't think this is about making equal opportunity reading recommendations. It is about trying to retain or maintain a secure spot in the top six by three publishers concerned about the changing tides in the publishing industry. It is such an amazing time to be an author indie, small press or traditionally published. I'd love to hear what you think...you can comment here or check me out on goodreads, or shelfari.
